Henry's Farm :: Harvest and Market

On Henry's Farm, I captured the amazing act of a two day organic vegetable harvest and the subsequent day at their booth at the Evanston Farmer's Market. I met many incredible and admirable people on Henry's Farm, and will never think about the food I eat the same way again.

I was working along side videographer Anya Traisman. The next step in this project is editing together everything she and I shot into a finished video for Henry's website. Here is a sneak peak at some of my photos to hold everyone over until the video is completed.

EQUILIBRE (BALANCE)

Yesterday was the big day. The show is up, and it looks great.

19 pieces (one more than advertised), and I wish I had a few more to put up. The restaurant is deceptively large, but I think I filled it well.

If you are interested in seeing all of the photos in the show, but are not going to be able to make it to the cafe between Feb. 9 and April 6, please visit my brand new shop on Etsy, at dgfineart.etsy.com.

For those of you that are going to see the show at Cafe Selmarie, I would ask that you not judge the quality of the show by what you see on Etsy. I spent a long time trying to make the work look great for an online market, but there is really no substitute for seeing the real prints, framed, and well lit.

I hope you all can make it for the "reception", next Tuesday, the 17th. I call it the "reception" because the cafe does not have "openings" anymore, so I am trying to engineer a way to fill the place with friends and colleagues during dinner hours. So, if anyone is interested in having dinner (or dessert, coffee, or a drink) with Leslie and me from 7-9pm next Tuesday, please drop me a line at davidgarciafineart@gmail.com so I have an idea of how many tables to reserve.

All are welcome to attend, and please bring a friend. Let's fill the place up! The food is great, the desserts are even better, and the artwork ain't too bad either.

I'm very excited to have a new show of work to share with all of my friends and co-workers here in Chicago. To everyone in St. Louis, Columbus, New York, Oakland, Khost Province, Nashville, and Franklin: I hope some of you can make it in to town to see the show. Leslie and I always have room for a couple of people here.

Also, I would like to thank Robert Sharoff and Bill Zbaren, who put me in touch with the owners at Cafe Selmarie. Thanks guys. Couldn't have done it without you.

Sneak Peak

From February 9 to April 6, photographs taken on my recent trip to France will be on display at Cafe Selmarie, in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood.

Last summer, I spent 2 weeks in the streets of Paris and the villages of Provence, and I came back with a head full of great memories and a camera full of tremendous photos. As anyone that knows my artwork can already guess, I didn't come home with many of those "classic" Paris scenes in my camera. What I returned home with were images of the invisible-in-broad-daylight places.

I photograph the residue of an active city, the evidence of urban use. The beauty and bustle of Paris was a great inspiration to me. But I also found a week in the countryside of Provence to be equally inspirational and rejuvenating.

I am very happy and excited about this chance to share my new photographs with you all. Cafe Selmarie is a great restaurant and bakery, and I cannot think of a better place to display this show. On the night of Tuesday, February 17th, I would like to invite you all - friends, family, and strangers, to come experience the show with me. Come for dinner, drinks, dessert, whatever. I'll be there all night to enjoy the restaurant and your company. If you think you are going to make it on the 17th, drop me a line at davidgarciafineart@gmail.com so I can have them reserve enough tables.

For those of you that are out of town and won't be able to make it to the show, I'll soon be launching an online gallery of the complete show.

More on that later. I've got to get back to printing and framing.

(Glimpse) Paris

In the coming days, I'll be adding more photos and information about my upcoming show at Cafe Selmarie. Stay tuned...
